July 11, 2005 — PriceWaterHouseCoopersLLP. PriceWaterHouseCoopers LLP. (PWC) has agreed to pay $41.9 Million to settle a qui tam action filed by an individual, Neal A. Roberts, in which he alleged that PWC had submitted false claims to federal agencies for travel reimbursement. PWC had apparently entered a contract to provide services to the government, and under that contract, PWC was entitled to be reimbursed for travel expenses. PWC would seek reimbursement for its travel expenses by submitting claims for such reimbursement to the government. In the qui tam action filed by Mr. Roberts, PWC allegedly received rebates on its travel expenses from travel and credit card companies, airlines, hotels, rental car agencies and travel service providers, but apparently filed claims with the federal government seeking reimbursement for the full amount of such expenses, despite the fact that it had received rebates for portions of those amounts.
